Giacomo Montanelli
San Miniato, 1996
Giacomo Montanelli (1996) lives and works in Milan and San Miniato (PI). Montanelli’s practice explores the sensitive intertwining that arises between the formal and narrative aspects of images. He conceives images as entities never given a priori, the result of a process of idealizing the perception of reality. His research moves between the history of art, the history of visual cultures, and the multiple registers of the image, creating various levels of interpretation. His forms are often primary and allusive, at times elaborated and explicit; the colors in his work heighten the atmosphere of a composition that functions as a hypothesis awaiting a sentiment. The subjects, techniques, and sensations suggested by Montanelli’s works constitute the outcome of a possibility of the real, defining a form of resistance to reality. They represent tools, lexicons, and pretexts to welcome the gaze and the imagination.
